🔥 Surrey Fire Charity Surpasses $2M, Launches Youth Academy

The Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society raised over $2 million last fiscal year—double what it achieved in 2018—fueling expanded local programs like school snack support and youth outreach. This spring, it also launched a three-day Youth Academy for high school students, awarding four $2,500 scholarships. Fundraising continues with events like the Battle of the Brews on Aug. 16 and the Ignite a Dream gala set for Sept. 20.

Meanwhile, Surrey Police Service is set to launch its own student police academy from July 7-11 for Grade 11 and 12 students.

Inventory Surges, Sales Slow

B.C.’s housing market is cooling as inventory rises and buyer activity slows. Over 10,000 active residential listings were recorded, up from 9,444 in February, while sales dropped to 230. The listings-to-sales ratio jumped to 43.8:1—compared to 29.8:1 earlier this year—highlighting a strong shift toward a buyer’s market.

The $500K–$1M range remains the most active, but even that segment saw declining sales. Luxury and entry-level homes continue to see low demand.
