🚧 Surrey Approves $16M Contract for Major Road Upgrades
Surrey council has greenlit a nearly $16M contract with B&B Heavy Civil Construction to upgrade 192 Street between 16 and 28 Avenue and begin preloading for the 72 Avenue extension from 152 Street to Bear Creek. A separate $249K contract was awarded to Aplin Martin for engineering support.
The 72 Avenue project will eventually feature two travel lanes in each direction, wider shoulders for farm vehicles, and improved ditches. Full construction will roll out in phases, with remaining work east of Bear Creek planned for 2026.
📌 Why it matters: This project addresses long-term traffic flow, supports local agriculture, and prepares infrastructure for future growth—making it easier to move people and goods across Surrey’s south end.
🚒 New $30M Fire Hall Coming
to Fleetwood
Surrey is moving ahead with a $30-million plan to build a new Fire Hall #6 two blocks north of the current site on 152 Street. The updated hall will better serve the growing Fleetwood community and make way for future development tied to the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension.
Planning is underway, with construction expected to begin in 2027 and finish by 2028.
📌 Why it matters: Fleetwood’s population is growing fast, and the current firehall is outdated and too small. This new facility will boost emergency response capabilities and support long-term transit-oriented growth in the area.

We visited the new Backyard Golf facility at Clayton Hills and loved it! It's a massive short game practice area with putting greens, chipping zones, and bunkers that you can use year-round. Super casual and family-friendly - perfect for golfers of all levels.
🚀 Surrey Aims to Boost Housing Supply by Nearly 28% by 2026
Surrey is on track to add 13,000 new homes by the end of 2026, a nearly 28% increase in housing supply backed by $100.7M in federal funding. As of May, the city had already approved over 9,000 units—well past its second-year target. The progress is part of the Housing Accelerator Fund, which rewards cities that streamline development and embrace growth.
Surrey has rolled out over 25 key improvements to speed up approvals and is planning updated land use designations to better align with market demand by early 2026.
📌 Why it matters: Surrey’s aggressive development push signals strong long-term investment potential. With major funding in place, expedited approvals, and continued population growth, the city is positioning itself as a key player in Metro Vancouver’s real estate future.
